the best one yet.

Well, here we are coming to mid-way through another week. It is May 12th and here in Austin Tx the weather is nice. The new Jovitas menus are nearly done, and looking quiet slick I may say. I’ll be excited to see how they look when we get them back from the printers. It’s already a good feeling to look in the Chronicle every week and see my Jovita’s ad in there. People come up to me and tell me they’ve seen it and such. I’m sure there will be a lot of pride when I go in there and seeing rooms filled with people holding copies of my design in their hands as the menu.

Once we move past this it is time to get on for well and good on the website. A lot of the artwork has already been created, although there is a fair share more on the inside which I will need Shannon’s help getting pictures of. She was invaluable throughout this process, and as a result the quality of the graphics really pays off.

The trick over the rest of this week will be to really make good progress on the Dickie Lee Erwin site. He’s got a lot of great photos, artwork which he’s done himself, even some wonderful logo typography work he’s done. All of these things need to get centralized, which I will work on later as this early morning turns its way to afternoon. The goal here is to try and have a decent draft of the site done for him by our meeting this Sunday over at Posse East. I think that is to be our meeting place for the rest of the project. It’s a great ten minute walk down Dean Keaton for me, and its filled with old-timers and steeped in Austin tradition. They have free wifi and the sweet bartender asked if she could charge her ebook using my lap top, making great conversation between.

It’s sunny in this town and its about to explode, summer is about to be here.

It’s going to be the best one yet.

Welcome to Dustbunny’s new blog. We are a design and web consulting business located in Austin, TX.

a report from the rabbit hole

This is an exciting time to be in this line of work in this thriving city of Austin TX. After a few years of mostly struggle in the way of making serious connections like I had while living in Los Angeles, with a short stint with Simply Interactive as a Flash Developer, and my steady once-a-month or so employer, The Learning Pad, I have mostly tried to make it totally on my own. The difference is I still had a lot to learn. And I still do, but I have enough knowledge now to swing my lifestyle alongside my work. We shall see if I can make the bills and the rent all on time, but it does seem to be looking that way.

I have two clients at the moment, Jovitas, a Mexican restaurant that is filled with wonderful staff and owners. I work alongside promoter Matt Meshbane on the weekly Chronicle ads and the website, as well as a bigger issue of rebranding the business as a whole. Not only that but they feed me and give me a few drinks while I’m in there helping them. They have a great outside patio which I play acoustic music on about once a week. They give me a few hours for my time slot so I get to book all my friends. It’s wonderful. Soon I plan to release a small poetry book which I will sell at these, and those like these, shows.

Through Jovitas I met Dickie Lee Erwin, a great Austin musician. He has also hired me to do his website. He has some great ideas and I’m looking forward to working out the design.

I’m also hopping to pick up a one-page Flash animation gig from PJ and The Bears. This is another gig which may be lined up strictly through Jovitas. Working from there is great. I spend most my days there now, waking up late and riding the #10 bus right there.

I’m excited about the prospects of the future and feel as though dustbunny is really about to take off. It’s finally ready.
